#EndSARS: FG To Setup Judicial Panels Of Inquiry To Investigate Cases Of Police Brutality And Extrajudicial Killings

As Nigerians continue to clamor for an end to police brutality, the Federal government has set up Judicial panels of inquiry to receive and investigate complaints of police brutality or related extrajudicial killings by the police.

 

The decision was taken at the National Economic Council NEC which was chaired by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday, October 15. Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this on his Twitter handle.

 

He wrote

 

”The National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by VP Osinbajo, has directed the immediate establishment of Judicial Panels of Inquiry to receive and investigate complaints of Police brutality or related extra judicial killings, the assignment to be concluded within 6 months (max.).

From today’s NEC Meeting, chaired by VP. • Judicial Panels of Inquiry formed to investigate police brutality. • Panels have 6 months to complete assignment. • Council directs governors to immediately establish a Special Victims Fund to compensation victims of brutality.”
