To forestall further security breach across Oyo State, the Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has summoned an emergency meeting of the state security council, which has been scheduled for the Governor’s Office, today.

The meeting is coming on the heels of recent events and developments in the state, especially the reported unwarranted shooting by some gunmen during a ceremony at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji.

The governor has also summoned a separate meeting of the traditional councils of the 11 local governments of Ibadanland, which are being headed by the members of the Obas-in-Council, who were formerly addressed as Olubadan-in-Council until their recent promotion.

They are also expected to meet with the governor at his office, on Wednesday (tomorrow).

The governor’s decision was conveyed through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Olalekan Alli, on Tuesday.

Expected at the meeting are the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan; Commissioner of Police at the state command; Director of Department of State Services; State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and heads of other security agencies in the state.

The statement added, “Government notes the unacceptable development and warns that the pre-2011 era of brigandage and violence perpetrated by undesirable elements shall not be tolerated.

“Government assures all and sundry that such perpetrators who may be exploiting the opportunity of the developments on the Ibadan chieftaincy issue to repeat the mayhem experienced prior to the tenure of this administration, and who seem to be warming up to their traits, shall be fished out and made to face the law.

“Government assures the public of its commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property in the state and shall take imperative, desirable and decisive steps to checkmate the untoward development.”

The statement implores all law-abiding citizens and members of the public to go about their lawful engagements without any fear, with the assurance that government would continue to be alive to its constitutional responsibilities.
