TO avoid possible breakdown of law and order that always characterises masquerade festival in Ibadanland, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji and Governor Abiola Ajimobi have prevailed on the leader of masquerade, Chief Ojetunde Akinleye Asoleke to suspend their festival till next year.

Masquerade supporters and some Muslim youths had clashed a couple of times leaving many people injured. When speaking with newsmen yesterday in Ibadan, Ojetunde said, “The Olubadan called us to inform us that the governor said masquerades should not come out this year and we agreed.” “I told them this has not happened before. He cited the ongoing Ramadan fast and we let them realise that last year that we celebrated Egungun festival nothing went wrong, and there was no breach of peace”, he said.
