A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to release businessman, Ifeanyi Ubah within 48 hours. The ruling was given by presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris on Thursday, May 25. Meanwhile, the Abuja Federal High Court, also on Thursday, permitted the DSS to detain Ubah for 14 more days.

Presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu reached the decision after an ex-parte application was made by DSS lawyer, Mr. G.O.A. Agbadua to that effect. The DSS made a fresh application for Ubah’s continued detention because the previous court order it obtained on May 10 expired on Wednesday, May 24. Ubah was arrested by the DSS on May 5 for allegedly diverting about 80 million litres of petrol which is worth N11 billion.

The DSS accused Ubah of planning to cause artificial scarcity of petrol and said he committed the offence of economic sabotage which is Punishable by death.
