Jussie Smollett has been declared guilty for lying about the homophobic attack against himself which he reported to the police in 2019.

The jury in the ongoing case that has lasted 3 years involving the US actor has found the 39-year-old guilty for lying to the police.

Recall that in 2019, the fitness instructors and brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, told Cook County Grand jury that they were paid by the now embattled actor to fake the attack, a claim his team insisted was real. To make the matters worse, he had told the police inconsistent stories in 2019.

The jury consisting of six men and six women reached its decision a day after deliberations began.

The prosecutors on the case countered his claims saying that he “lied for hours” on the stand as he repeated what he told to Chicago police.

The Empire actor was found guilty on Thursday of five counts of disorderly conduct with each count carrying a penalty of up to three years in prison. A sentencing date is yet to be scheduled.

In January 2019, the Empire television show star, who is black and gay, told police he was attacked by two assailants who shouted slurs, yelled a Trump slogan, dumped a “chemical substance” on him and tied a noose around his neck while he was walking late at night in Chicago.
