The presidency has confirmed that the kidnapped Dapchi schoolgirls have been released.
Sahara Reporters had reported on Wednesday that the girls have been released. The report also added that out of the 110 kidnapped girls, 105 were returned with 5 of them said to be deceased.
The insurgents reportedly returned in the 9-vehicle convoy with which they came to abduct the girls. Residents of the town reportedly fled the scene, but the insurgents only dropped the girls off before leaving.
The presidency confirming the release on Twitter, said:
Details about the released Dapchi girls will be made available in due course. The girls are now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), in Dapchi. The DSS will be briefing the President and the nation in the course of the day.
